The Television
Some stuff about the television
With the birth of Television, radio lost a lot
of its original programs. With millions of listeners
still using radios in their cars and portable radios to
listen radio moved into a new era.
In 1873 it was realized that light could be
changed into electrical impulses making it possible
to transmit these over long distances and change
them into light. In 1908 it was found that cathode-
ray tubes could help with transmission and receiving.
The first real transmission was by John Baird in
London on January 27,1926. In the United States
David Sarnoff and Philo Farnsworth powered the
first sets in the 1930's. It wasn't until the late
1940's that local and national shows were
scheduled. Live perfromances then went to
videotaped shows in the 50's and then color T.V.
sets come about in the 60's.
John Baird brought color T.V. to London in
1928. In December 1953 the first system to transmit
in color was made in the United States. Regular
televisions gave way to high definition television
which took television using 525 lines of resolution to
1,125 lines and able to use wide screens.
In the late 1980's they thought it was
impossible to change a television signal to digital
code. with data compression it was possible to
develop digital T.V. With digital T.V. that came into
play in the 1990's it offered sharper and wider
pictures. Although there are some channels
broadcasting in digital it it figured that not until
2006 until the digital system takes over for the
current analog system.
